Strengthening Borders, Protecting Lives: CBX and Fundación Freedom's Anti-Trafficking Campaign

Human trafficking is a pervasive and heinous crime affecting millions globally, with an estimated 25 million people trapped in various forms of modern slavery worldwide. Borders and transportation hubs, including airports, play a critical role in both the perpetration and prevention of this crime. As gateways between countries, these locations are often exploited by traffickers, but they also provide unique opportunities for intervention and prevention efforts.

Recognizing this crucial role, Cross Border Xpress partnered with Fundación Freedom in April 2024 to enhance the safety and security of travelers crossing the U.S.-Mexico border via CBX. Fundación Freedom, founded in 2021, is a dedicated non-profit organization in Mexico focusing on preventing and combating the trafficking of children for sexual exploitation. Their mission encompasses prevention, intervention, justice, and rehabilitation of victims.

CBX and Fundación Freedom’s collaboration led to several initiatives aimed at strengthening security protocols and raising awareness among travelers and staff. A highlight of this partnership was a two-month fundraising campaign in May and June, which raised $16,531.27 to support Fundación Freedom’s vital work.

To celebrate these efforts and further discuss ways to prevent human trafficking, CBX hosted a panel discussion on July 15, 2024. The event featured Fernando Landeros, President and Founder of Fundación Freedom and Teleton, who shared insights on their comprehensive approach to tackling child sexual exploitation.

"The aviation industry provides a unique opportunity for law enforcement and security personnel to identify and intercept traffickers and their victims,” said CBX CEO Jorge Goytortua. "We at Cross Border Xpress are committed to social responsibility and the well-being of our community. Ensuring the safety and security of our passengers is a core responsibility."

Fernando Landeros emphasized the importance of this partnership: "Our collaboration with CBX has been instrumental in extending our reach and impact. By training CBX staff and raising awareness, we are taking significant steps towards preventing human trafficking and protecting vulnerable children at the border. Together, we can make a real difference." The event on July 15 provided a platform for discussing effective initiatives and showcased the success of the partnership. Media representatives and local nonprofit organizations attended, contributing to the crucial conversation on preventing human trafficking. The dialogue highlighted the need for continued collaboration and proactive measures to safeguard vulnerable individuals at border crossings.

As we reflect on the success of the partnership between CBX and Fundación Freedom, it is imperative to recognize the ongoing need for vigilance and action. The fight against human trafficking requires continuous effort and collaboration across all sectors. By supporting these kinds of initiatives, we can help protect vulnerable individuals and work towards a future free from exploitation.
